Description:

The main purpose of the workshop is to discuss ways to make the role of hidden psychological processes more visible and comprehensible to both teachers and learners in the learning process. First, using playful solutions, we experience how the role of working memory manifests itself in learning new material. We then discuss what specific features of working memory should be considered when designing the learning process and analyze the effects of working memory overload on learning and motivation to learn. Finally, we jointly create task scenarios that take into consideration working memory constraints and help raise learners' awareness of their own working memory processes. It’s recommended to take your laptop with you to the workshop

Expected target group:

Teachers and other educational practitioners who are interested in student learning and look for possibilities for enhancing student learning based on basic psychological processes that are usually not visually detectable in the classroom

Expected number of participants:

20-30 teachers, who will work in group with their personal computers

Learning outcomes:

The participants can:
  • can experience and experiment with a gamified solution to evaluate the performance of working memory in the learning process,
  • explore ways to address working memory constraints to support learning,
  • collaboratively create scenarios that take into consideration working memory constraints and help to raise learners' awareness of their own working memory processes,
  • analyze the suitability of the solutions and ideas presented in the context of their own specific subject area.
